Final Destination Bloodlines Eyes $40M Debut | Box Office Showdown 2025

· ·

Horror is back in the spotlight as “Final Destination Bloodlines” gears up for a $40 million opening weekend, leading the North American box office. The latest chapter in the 25-year-old franchise is poised to dethrone Marvel’s “Thunderbolts”, which has dominated for two weeks.

Final Destination Bloodlines Revives the Franchise After 14 Years

Warner Bros. and New Line’s R-rated sequel, the first since 2011, is projected to earn $35 to $45 million from 2,800 theaters. Globally, it could rake in another $35 million from 74 markets, pushing its worldwide debut to $70-80 million.

Despite changing audience tastes, horror continues to thrive at the box office. The film follows a family haunted by a decades-old death cheat, leading to grisly, elaborate fatalities — a formula fans know well. With a $50 million production budget, Bloodlines is expected to be the franchise’s biggest opener.

Marvel’s Thunderbolts Slows Down in Third Weekend

Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” will likely drop to second place, earning $15–18 million. So far, it has grossed $127.7 million domestically and $271 million globally. Despite better holds than recent MCU films, its hefty $180 million budget means profitability remains uncertain.

The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow Faces a Modest Debut

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is projected to debut with $5-7 million. The Lionsgate-backed film, tied to his album, follows an insomniac musician’s mental spiral. Directed by Trey Edward Shults, it co-stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. With a $15 million budget, its limited appeal could see a slow start.

Warner Bros. Aims for a Box Office Hat Trick

Bloodlines could mark Warner Bros.’ third consecutive hit, following “Sinners” and “A Minecraft Movie.” Both films remain strong, with Minecraft pulling in over $900 million globally. After flops like “Mickey 17” and “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the studio is on the rebound.

Box Office Still Lags Behind Pre-Pandemic Numbers

Even with recent hits, 2025’s box office remains 33% below 2019 levels. Studios hope upcoming summer blockbusters like “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” will help close the gap.
