A tragic shooting in a Midtown Manhattan office building yesterday left four people dead, with Shane Devon Tamura, 27, identified as the gunman. The New York Police Department (NYPD) is now expanding its investigation, sending officers to Las Vegas to explore potential motives behind the attack. According to sources, Tamura carried an assault rifle and a suicide note. He claimed to suffer from CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), a brain disease commonly linked to repeated head trauma.

The Shooter’s Motive and Investigation

Tamura, who is believed to have been aiming for the NFL offices in the building, mistakenly took the wrong elevator, which led to his deadly rampage. Investigators are now focusing on his background, particularly his time in Las Vegas, to uncover more details about his motivations.

Victims Identified in Deadly Attack

The shooting victims include an off-duty NYPD officer and a Blackstone executive. A security guard, called a “New York hero,” and a Cornell graduate working for the building’s owner were also among them. Additionally, an NFL employee was critically injured during the attack.

Political Reactions to the Shooting

In the aftermath of the deadly incident, Zohran Mamdani, a mayoral candidate, has drawn attention for his previous comments on the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (SRG). This unit is responsible for handling mass shootings and other major events. Mamdani had pledged to disband the SRG. He cited its role in escalating tensions during protests and costing taxpayers millions in lawsuit settlements. He has since expressed his condolences over the shooting, offering support to the victims, their families, and the NYPD officer still in critical condition.
