Miami Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Pushing Woman into River
A Miami man, William Youmans, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly pushing Marie Luce Roseme into the Miami River during a violent altercation. The incident took place in Downtown Miami near the seawall, where witnesses reported seeing the pair arguing before the situation escalated.
A Violent Incident Unfolds
On Tuesday morning, around 11 a.m., Miami Police and Fire Rescue responded to reports of a potential drowning near 114 SW North River Drive and 135 SW River Drive. Police say that after a heated argument, Youmans pushed Roseme into the river, resulting in her falling into the water. Fortunately, witnesses were quick to alert authorities and keep track of Youmans’ whereabouts.
Immediate Rescue Efforts
Rescue teams were dispatched immediately after receiving the call. Miami Police Marine Patrol divers located Roseme nearly 20 minutes later, and she was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Authorities report that she remains intubated and in critical care.
Witness Accounts and Arrest
Witnesses, including a young boy who was near the scene, told authorities they saw Youmans and Roseme shouting at each other before the woman sat down by the seawall. According to the boy, Youmans approached her from behind and forcefully pushed her into the river. He immediately called 911 for help.
Another witness confirmed seeing Youmans frequently at Jose Marti Park, where he was known to visit regularly. Police say they attempted to interview Youmans, but he exhibited violent and erratic behavior during questioning. He was reportedly screaming, punching walls, and engaging in disturbing actions while in custody.
Legal Proceedings
Youmans, 47, was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is being held on attempted murder charges. Jail records show his bond has not yet been set. His violent behavior in custody has raised further concerns about his actions.
