The festival’s first weekend kicks off July 18, with a second weekend planned for July 25–27. Organizers have confirmed the event will not be cancelled, and DreamVille—Tomorrowland’s primary campsite—will open Thursday as scheduled.

Massive Fire Engulfs Main Stage Just Before Opening

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon while nearly 1,000 staff members were working onsite. Flames quickly consumed the main stage structure, one of the most elaborate in global music festival production. Dramatic videos circulating online show the stage collapsing as fireworks ignited amid the blaze.

Hundreds of firefighters were dispatched to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby forested areas. Local officials urged residents to stay clear of the festival site while crews worked for hours to secure the area.

Organizers Commit to a Safe and Memorable Festival

Despite the destruction, Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen reassured fans that the show will go on. “DreamVille will open as planned, and we’re expecting 38,000 festival-goers,” she said. “We’re working on alternative setups to ensure the magic of Tomorrowland continues.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Prosecutors from Antwerp noted that early evidence points to an accidental blaze. Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the Underway

Festival Adjustments and Crowd Safety Plans Underway

With the main stage offline, organizers are reconfiguring stage plans, likely shifting performances to large venues like the Freedom Stage. Police and security teams are also updating crowd control and safety measures in light of the expected 100,000 attendees over both weekends.

Festivalgoers are encouraged to follow official alerts and stage updates, which will be released as soon as new layouts are confirmed.

Local Shock, But Global Support for Festival’s Resilience

Boom residents described the moment the fire erupted. “I heard fireworks and saw a huge smoke cloud—it was alarming,” said local resident Morgan Hermans.

Created 20 years ago by Belgian brothers Manu and Michiel Beers, Tomorrowland has grown into one of the world’s most iconic EDM events, hosting global acts like David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Charlotte de Witte, and Lost Frequencies.

Although this year’s main stage won’t see the spotlight, fans and performers alike are rallying behind the festival’s resilience. As Wilmsen stated, “This is tragic, but we’re determined to make it a wonderful festival.
