Connor Hellebuyck Wins Hart and Vezina, Becomes First Goalie Since 2015 to Claim Both Honors

· ·

Connor Hellebuyck just made NHL history.

The Winnipeg Jets goaltender was awarded both the Hart Trophy (league MVP) and the Vezina Trophy (best goaltender) for the 2024–25 NHL season, becoming the first goalie in a decade to sweep both awards. The last to do it? Carey Price in 2015.

A Rare and Historic Feat

Hellebuyck is only the fourth goaltender in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967) to win the Hart Trophy. He joins an elite list that includes Dominik Hasek, Jose Theodore, and Carey Price.

  • Hart Trophy: Voted most valuable player by the Professional Hockey Writers Association
  • Vezina Trophy: Voted best goalie by NHL general managers

This marks Hellebuyck’s third Vezina win (after victories in 2020 and 2024)—but this season’s double win places him in a league of his own.

Dominant Regular Season, Disappointing Playoffs

Hellebuyck was nearly unstoppable during the regular season:

  • 47 wins (league leader)
  • 8 shutouts
  • 2.00 GAA (goals against average)
  • .925 save percentage
  • Jets won the Presidents’ Trophy with the best record

However, his playoff numbers dipped significantly. Winnipeg made it past St. Louis in seven games but lost to Dallas in Round 2. Hellebuyck posted a 6–7 playoff record, with an .866 save percentage and a 3.08 GAA, including three games where he was pulled.

Still, his regular-season dominance left no doubt.

“Looking back, I’ll probably picture this day as one of the greatest of my career,” Hellebuyck said after being surprised with the trophies by family and teammates in Michigan.
