Jalen Ramsey, Dolphins Agree to Explore Trade Ahead of 2025 Season
Jalen Ramsey could be suiting up for a new team in 2025.
According to NFL insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the Miami Dolphins and Ramsey have mutually agreed to explore trade options ahead of the upcoming season. This decision comes less than a year after Ramsey signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension with Miami.

Although his contract runs through 2028, the final year with guaranteed money is this season. Ramsey is set to earn roughly $25 million in salary and bonuses in 2025.
Ramsey Still Productive, But Dolphins May Pivot
Despite not being selected for the Pro Bowl in 2024 — the first time that’s happened since his rookie year — Ramsey still performed at a high level. He played all 17 games and logged 60 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 11 pass breakups.
Pro Football Focus ranked him 10th among all cornerbacks, and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver emphasized Ramsey’s versatility:
“The more he’s around the ball, the more plays he makes. That’s just who he is.”
Still, Miami’s season didn’t go as planned. Injuries on both sides of the ball derailed their playoff hopes, and the team is now entering the draft with multiple roster holes — including at cornerback.
What a Trade Could Mean for the Dolphins
If the Dolphins move Ramsey before June 1, they’ll take an $8.5 million cap hit. Trading him after June 1 would provide a $9.9 million cap savings — a likely factor in the timing of any potential deal.
The team is already short on cornerbacks following the release of Kendall Fuller. With Kader Kohou expected to cover the slot and limited free-agent movement at the position, Miami may need to draft at least one starter. They currently hold 10 draft picks, including five within the first four rounds.

At 30, Ramsey is still one of the NFL’s most impactful defenders when healthy. After earning seven Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro nods, he remains a valuable asset — especially for a contender looking for a defensive anchor.
The 2025 NFL Draft could offer the right opportunity for Miami to strike a deal, likely in exchange for premium draft capital.
