Lenovo has just introduced its latest Chromebook, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, powered by MediaTek’s Kompanio Ultra SoC, which comes equipped with an impressive 50 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) neural processing unit (NPU). While this new Chromebook offers solid specs and AI enhancements, it may not be a game-changer for all users.
What’s Under the Hood
The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 features a 14.0-inch OLED display with a 1920×1200 resolution, promising vibrant visuals for both work and play. It’s powered by up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, making it a capable multitasker. The laptop includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and a solid array of ports, including two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. Lenovo claims the 60Wh battery will provide up to 17 hours of usage.

Lenovo and Google are banking on AI as a key feature of this Chromebook. With Google’s Gemini AI, users can search for anything displayed on the screen, making information retrieval seamless. There’s also a “smart grouping” feature that intelligently organizes tabs and documents based on your tasks, boosting productivity.
Google’s upcoming AI features—like the Lens click-to-search, image-to-text capture, Quick Insert for adding images to documents, and Help me read for text summarization—are also included. While these features are useful, they are not unique to the Chromebook Plus, as they’ll eventually roll out to all devices with an NPU.

From executives and artists who’ll benefit from AI tools, to educators who’ll appreciate the Chrome Education Upgrade, and IT departments utilizing Chrome Enterprise for device management, this Chromebook seems to cater to all. Dolby Atmos speakers and gaming capabilities round out the offering, making it appealing to consumers as well.
However, despite these features, the Chromebook remains tied to Google’s cloud-based operating system, limiting some functionality compared to traditional PCs.
