Jannik Sinner Defeats Carlos Alcaraz to Win First Wimbledon Title in Rivalry Rematch
Jannik Sinner capped off a remarkable grass-court run by defeating Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to win his first Wimbledon title and fourth career Grand Slam. The victory not only avenged his heartbreaking five-set loss to Alcaraz in the 2025 French Open final just five weeks ago, but also snapped a five-match losing streak against the Spanish star.

With this win, the 23-year-old Italian becomes the first Italian player in history to win Wimbledon singles and adds a grass-court major to his collection that already includes titles from the 2024 US Open and back-to-back Australian Opens in 2024 and 2025.
A Rivalry Fit for the Ages
This is the second consecutive Grand Slam final between the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 players, and the first time the same two men met in both the French Open and Wimbledon finals in the same year since Federer and Nadal in the 2000s.
Since 2024, Sinner and Alcaraz have won seven straight majors between them, making theirs the defining rivalry of this generation. The Wimbledon final marked Alcaraz’s first loss in a Grand Slam final, dropping his career record to 5–1.
From Redemption to Record Books
After losing the opening set, Sinner dug deep, capitalizing on Alcaraz’s shaky first-serve percentage (53%) and seven double faults. He held firm on crucial points, particularly during a pivotal game at 4-3 in the fourth set, where he saved two break points to maintain momentum.
Sinner also became:
- The first man to defeat both previous year’s finalists (Alcaraz and Djokovic) en route to a Wimbledon title since Michael Stich in 1991
- The first player with multiple wins over Alcaraz on grass (Alcaraz is now 35–2 on grass vs. others)
- The man with the shortest span between his first and fourth Grand Slam titles (532 days) after Roger Federer (434 days)
The Italian celebrated by crouching to the grass in joy and later said, “You just have to understand what you did wrong. That’s exactly what we did.”
Alcaraz’s Streak Snapped
Alcaraz came into the final on a 24-match win streak and having won 20 straight matches at Wimbledon, including back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. But even with 15 aces and an electric first set that ended with a flicked backhand winner at an impossible angle, he couldn’t match Sinner’s composure in the big moments.
“It’s difficult to lose,” Alcaraz admitted. “But I’m really happy about having this rivalry with him. It’s great for us and for tennis.”
What’s Next for Sinner and Alcaraz
This win further fuels one of tennis’ most thrilling rivalries. With four majors for Sinner and three for Alcaraz since 2024, the two are clearly trading dominance on tennis’s biggest stages. With both men still in their early 20s, the next chapter promises more historic clashes.
