JetBlue Pulls Out of Miami International Airport, Keeps Fort Lauderdale Hub
JetBlue Airways will officially halt all service at Miami International Airport (MIA) starting September 3, 2025, the airline confirmed on Saturday. The decision follows the ongoing financial underperformance of its limited Miami routes and reflects a strategic shift toward more profitable destinations.

Why JetBlue Is Leaving MIA
JetBlue’s presence at MIA has been modest, offering just one to two daily flights between Miami and Boston. In a statement to the Miami Herald, Derek Dombrowski, JetBlue’s director of corporate communications, explained the move:
“To free aircraft for new routes, we’ve recently made the decision to end a small number of unprofitable flights including between Boston and Miami.”
Travelers who have already booked JetBlue flights to or from MIA after September 3 will have two options:
- Rebook through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
- Receive a full refund to their original form of payment
Fort Lauderdale Remains a Key Hub
While JetBlue is exiting MIA, its operations at Fort Lauderdale remain strong. The airline continues to run daily flights from FLL to Boston and West Palm Beach, among other cities.
In 2024:
- JetBlue served approximately 6.8 million passengers at FLL
- That made it FLL’s second-largest carrier, behind Spirit Airlines
- The airline handled 19% of all traffic at the Broward airport
Through April 30, 2025, JetBlue had served 2.2 million passengers at FLL, despite a slight year-over-year dip of 6%.
Miami Expansion Didn’t Last
Back in 2021, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, JetBlue made an ambitious push into Miami, adding:
- Up to 14 daily flights
- Routes to JFK, Newark, Los Angeles, Hartford, and up to four flights per day to Boston
But lower-than-expected demand, combined with the blocked merger with Broward-based Spirit Airlines in 2024, led JetBlue to gradually scale back.
As of Saturday, the airline operated only two Boston arrivals and one departure at MIA, highlighting the limited scope of its current operations.
