Zach Hyman Exits Early as Oilers Take Game 4 Win Over Stars
Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman left Game 4 of the Western Conference Final after taking a hard hit in the first period. Despite his absence, the Oilers defeated the Dallas Stars 4–1 at Rogers Place and now hold a 3–1 lead in the series.

Details of the First-Period Collision
Hyman was injured at 9:17 of the first period while carrying the puck out of the defensive zone. As he tried to maneuver past Stars defenseman Esa Lindell, he was hit on the right shoulder by Mason Marchment. He dropped his stick, skated to the bench, and went straight to the locker room for assessment. He did not return for the remainder of the game.
Postgame Reaction and Team Resilience
Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch offered no immediate update, stating the medical team would need more time to assess Hyman’s condition.
“I always wait to get the final (assessment) after he sees the doctor,” said Knoblauch.
Despite losing a key player, the Oilers responded with a strong team effort. Goaltender Stuart Skinner praised the group for stepping up in Hyman’s absence, calling him “a leader in the room.”
“He grinds, he does the little things right… everyone loves that guy,” said Skinner.
The Importance of Hyman’s Role
Hyman has played a major role in the Oilers’ playoff run. He leads the NHL this postseason with 111 hits in 15 games and sits fifth in team scoring with 11 points (five goals, six assists).
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins spoke about how Hyman’s physical play and leadership impact the team.
“He’s a big part of our team on and off the ice,” he said. “Guys are ready to step up.”
Oilers Look to Close Out Series in Game 5
The Oilers now have a chance to secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Final for the second consecutive season. Game 5 takes place Thursday in Dallas at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+, ESPN, SN, TVAS, CBC).
While Hyman’s return remains uncertain, the Oilers continue to show they’re ready to adapt and compete with intensity.
